Sophia is a dancer, teacher and choreographer based in Chicago, IL. She graduated from The Ohio State University in 2021, where she received her Bachelor of Fine Arts in Dance with a focus in performance and choreography. Sophia attended the Orange County School of the Arts (OCSA) in Santa Ana, California in the Commercial Dance Conservatory, and trained at The Movement in Cypress, CA under the direction of Nicole Smith. Currently, Sophia is a company member with Niko 8, under the direction of Sean Roschman.
During her time at Ohio State, Sophia was one of sixteen dancers selected to travel with the Dance Denmark tour group in 2019, under the direction of Ann Sofie Clemmensen and Daniel Roberts. She showcased a piece in Slagelse, Odense, and Aalborg, and performed in a work choreographed by Daniel Roberts. As a student in the Department of Dance, Sophia performed in works created by Eddie Taketa, Momar Ndiaye, Susan Van Pelt Petry, and Anne Sofie Clemmensen.
This year, Sophia performed in the opening ceremony of the 9th Saudi Film Festival in Dhahran, Saudi Arabia, with Freckled Sky, a multimedia dance and performance company. She has also performed choreography by Emily Craver with experimental pop musical trio, Big Pal, in Chicago.
Sophia has focused her dance practice primarily on modern and contemporary. She has attended various movement intensives to supplement her daily training. Intensives include: Doug Varone and Dancers Winter Intensive (2022), Deeply Rooted Dance Theater Summer Dance Intensive (2020), ate9 Winter Dance Intensive (2019), Generation IV Dance (2017-2019), and more.
As a dance teacher, Sophia has experience teaching ballet, jazz, tap, contemporary, hip hop, beginning level modern, and beginning level pointe. Currently, Sophia is a jazz teacher at All About Dance in Chicago, IL. She has taught at Cutting Edge Dance Studio in Powell, OH and The Movement in Cypress, CA.
